Teams are encouraged in order to motivate one another to work at the program and stick with it. If you do not have a team or are an individual wishing to participate, we can help you to find a team or you can participate as an individual team. Families are always welcome. Participants earn points by moving and exercising, by eating a balanced diet and by getting educated on current health and wellness topics through weekly instructional sessions held by local professionals. I know, you are saying, “How can I fit all this in?” Well, you do not have to earn points in all of the areas, although the more you participate the more points you will earn for your team. There are also extra credit points to be earned along the way for preventative screening tests, quitting smoking and participating in local charitable events. Although it truly is a competition where everyone wins, at the end of the 8-week program that is strategically designed to begin right after the New Year on January 5th, the top three teams with the highest averaged point total will be the prizewinners. A new 8-week challenge will be launched each season.
What are the benefits? For starters you can look, feel and function better if you eat well, exercise and change your bad habits. You could have more energy and be more productive in both your personal and professional life. Also, if you are in business, studies have shown that companies who participate in an organized wellness program of this type will actually reduce the cost of health care for the company and the employees!
We encourage you to use this program to implement healthier and more productive habits in your life and have fun doing it. Here’s to a Healthier Madison!

The purpose of the Madison Challenge initiative is for members of the Madison community to experience the benefits of a corporate style wellness program on a local level. This fun and friendly, community-wide, 8-week health and wellness competition is brought to you by the Madison Chamber of Commerce and the newly formed Madison Council on Health and Wellness. It is the mission of these groups to actively support a better quality of life by promoting and enjoying healthy attitudes, habits and lifestyles.
This is a program to help all of us incorporate more health and fitness into our daily lives and observe the benefits of better performance and expression of good health.
